| Biography After graduating from San Jose State University with a major in fine arts painting, Doug Andersen spent a few years in the gallery market. Finding the fine arts world to be too commercial, he graduated into the illustration market. He worked for seven years freelancing as an illustrator/designer doing educational material. He then worked for five years in Lockheed's Space Systems Division as an illustrator. There he was involved with many projects doing both technical illustration and conceptual paintings of spacecraft and hardware. Some of the programs he worked on were Space Shuttle, Space Telescope, Space Station, and early Mars landing projects. Doug spent another five years as an art director for Lockheed's New Business Acquisition, still doing conceptual renderings for new products, but also designing presentation artwork for SSD's Acquisition Management group which oversaw new business development. On leaving the space industry he spent the next 12 years free-lancing in the Science Fiction game and book cover market. Along with teaching illustration courses, Doug is still doing book cover and CD cover art.
